Let's Get This Fire Started
Welcome to Smokeless Fires: Let's Get This Fire Started
Congratulations on purchasing your new firepit from Smokeless Fires! Whether you're a seasoned fire enthusiast or diving into backyard fires for the first time, we're here to ensure you have a fantastic experience right from the start.
Getting Started: Lighting Your Firepit
When you first light your firepit, it's normal for it to produce some smoke for the first 8 to 10 minutes. This is part of the initial heating process and nothing to worry about. Just be aware and ensure proper ventilation during this time.
Lighting Tips:
- Placement: Choose a flat, level surface away from any overhanging structures like ceilings or trees.
- Even Lighting: To prevent warping of the metal, light the firepit evenly around its circumference rather than concentrating the heat in one spot.
- Prepare the Firepit: Clear the fire pit of any debris, ash, or leftover wood from previous fires.
-
Fire Lighters:
- Place fire lighter pieces around the outside of your honeycomb shaped grid, with one large piece in the centre.
- Light all of the outer edge pieces first, moving quickly to ensure even distribution of heat all the way around your firepit.
About That Wood: The ideal wood to use is dry Wattle or Gum. Start with small pieces of wood or kindling to ignite the fire easily. As the fire progresses, you can add larger logs to keep it going.
Using Your Firepit
Once your fire is burning steadily:
- Heat Diffusers: Our fire pits are equipped with heat diffusers, so you don't need to worry about the surface underneath. However, allow the initial smoke to dissipate before positioning the fire pit under any ceilings or structures to avoid smoke accumulation.
- Transport & Carry: Once the fire is going, the heat will begin to generate quickly. To move your firepit, we recommend using our stainless steel poles which can be held from each end and placed under the rim to lift and move the firepit to your desired location.
Maintaining Your Fire
To keep your firepit burning smoothly:
- Stoking the Fire: Logs may smoke if the fire dies down, so keep the fire going with a steady supply of wood.
- Safety: Be careful when dealing with fire and open flame. Although the fire is contained within the unit, it is not advised to burn under thatch roofing. It is also not recommended to touch the Smokeless Fires unit with bare hands whilst in use.
Attachments
Not the deep philosophical kind... Here we are talking about the braai grid and potjie attachments and how you go about getting your Smokeless Fires unit ready for the best braai experience ever!
- Take the vertical pole, place it in the hole you see on your units' rim. It should be standing upright without a wobble.
- Place either/both attachments around the vertical pole. Tighten the screw, push down on it slightly to see if it can bare the weight of the most delicious potjie and/or braai...
How To Clean
- Clean out ash with brush and pan
- Hose/Wipe down with water & cloth
- Allow to dry
- For good maintenance of the 304 steel regularly use Stainless steel cleaner to rid your unit of any stubborn blemishes.
- Buffer with dry cloth to regain sparkle & shine
- Dry with a microfibre cloth to avoid water & mineral marks
